Some have been quick to point out that there has less case of acne breakouts in the past when our days were much simpler back then. One stark difference is that people have been consuming more meat now than ever due to increasing affluence and technology which enables us to rear animals much more effectively. As our demand for meat rises, commercial farming has taken a twist – hormones are injected into animals to enable them to grow much quicker, fuller and prevent them from falling ill less often and when we consume these meat, we are also indirectly consuming these hormones. When we consume too much sugar, there will be a spike in blood sugar level in our body, and our body will have to produce more hormones to dissolve the sugar, and when our body produces more hormones, it signals to our liver to absorb these hormones necessary for growth. The end result is our liver being overtaxed with sugar translates to acne.
